What happened with the eel?

It had too many bones in it, and the skin wouldn't come off, and Pablo Neruda vastly overplays the pleasures of Chilean conger eel chowder.

BAH!

I didn't know that eel was supposed to be skinned. Every time I've ever eaten it, it had the skin on.

Bugger me, you live and learn.

Why are you assuming you're in the wrong? I could equally have been misguided to try to skin the bits of eel.

As it was, the recipe said "eel, skinned".

I guess it's like chicken - sometimes you skin it, sometimes not.

Mind you, most of the eel I've had has been in SE Asian dishes, where the skin is considered the good bit on a fish.

I though you hated eels already, on account of the two Es?

Not only is it a Moomin, it's a knitted Moomin.

I did and still dislike the spelling. And I'm not keen on the look of eels themselves.
I saw some conger eel steaks in the fish section of Morrissons and bought them on an "ooh, interesting fish!" whim. I looked up a recipe online and made conger chowder which was OK but not fabulous.

Hm. I don't groove on eel acuz it's so fatty. It may have been how it was prepared, though. I am ignorant in the way of eel, and i admire you for getting the wild hair to prepare it yourself.
Everything i know about eel in the western tradition, though, is Rendall, My Son. An' I aint too sure about that.

But i had a similar "Skin, rrr! Bones, rrr!" experience last time i had rattlesnake. I am not buying rattlesnake again. Bastard bloody shitwanking rattlesnake.
