So, the question you weren't supposed to ask. Have I ever taken an independent liking to any form of music without A MAN being involved?

The evidence is stacking up on one side of the balance.

I'm listening to the Feelies right now, simply because David Quantick said to on Twitter.

Maybe this is something I "should" have been listening to a long time ago. But when you get grey hairs and a lady-beard like mine, you're too old to worry about that kind of mocking, and the people you know are too old to dish it out.

Ever notice how I'm always free and easy on Twitter, and always prickly and self-undermining on here? There must be a reason for that.

Because twitter has a high triviality quotient?
Twitter > Facebook > Livejournal?

I think it's not just that, or at least, not that in a first-order way.

I think that because Twitter is perceived as the most trivial, it is lower risk than LJ (I don't do much with FB). What I say in 140 characters isn't supposed to be "good enough" so it can just sit there as it is, easy come, easy go. I don't need to make it clipped, frosty and defensive; neither do I need to pre-emptively undermine it as I tend to with anything longer than a sentence or five.

As I said elsewhere it is hard work and it continues to be hard work.

I'm a man and I say: Listen to Bulgarian wedding dance music.

There, hope that's broken the pattern.

I've noticed that a lot of my favorite music (both genres and individual artists/songs) came to me from girlfriends. My love for all things 80s comes from one, most of my Christian Contemporary CDs (I know, I know) come from another, and my interest in nerdcore comes from a third.

It turns out that as well as being borrowed from male boyfriend types and male friend types and male acquaintance types, my musical taste is also borrowed from female friend types and acquaintance types.

So I don't have to worry about being a woman who situates herself as "recipient," "learner," "vessel," "vassal," and "padawan," in relation to men; I just have to worry about situating as same in general.

Glad to have de-gendered my uselessness.

Cuppatea, anyone?
