Mar. 27th, 2008 08:19 pmYou know what is a nice feeling? When you warm to a person or thing that you had previously been cold or antipathic towards.
Things I have warmed towards recently (like, in the last year or week or day or something)
1. Russell Brand. Couldn't stand him at one time, mainly because I was of the opinion that his schtick was entirely taken from Round The Horne. Oh yes, you know the polari, well done you, you big twat, etc. Anyhow, I warmed to the Brand over a period of time, taking the time to note that he did not lean on the Julian and Sandy bit as much as I had thought, and being genuinely won over by the man's enthusiasm for honesty. Enthusiasm goes a long way.
2. Kimi Räikkönen. Used to actually dislike the man. Recently I have thawed. My partner put it well - he said "you can't really like or dislike Kimi. He's just... there like some sort of geological feature". Also, nobody THAT Finnish can be in my bad books. I was at a complete loss as to what the hardline Kimi fangirls saw in the chap, though. Pretty? I think not, I'm sorry to say. On reflection, I think that the construction of a particular mythic swashbuckling masculinity has something to do with it. Given the way this image of masculinity is constructed, the following inductive argument is possible - someone who drives like his hair is on fire and drinks like a fish must therefore also bang like a shithouse door in the wind. Not necessarily my own opinion, just throwing it out there for the analysis and the ever-tender lulz.
3. The posh woman who is doing the "Cook's Journey Through Spain". I think I was flat out prejudiced towards her because of her accent. HOW SHITTY IS THAT? Srlsy, I deserve a little flagellation for this. Once again, it's the woman's enthusiasm that won me over. And I bloody love Spanish food. She's on right now, on Channel Four.
There are probably more things I've warmed towards. I might add them if I think of them.

Aug. 24th, 2007 01:10 pmEverything is tasty today!
WI raspberry jam: delicious, and why have I not been getting jam from the WI market before? They are the obvious jam producers, after all. This jam is sooooo goooood. There are large gibbous chunks of ruby, sharp, still-hairy raspberries in it. This are jam.
Coffee with milk: strangely delicious, since the coffee tin is empty enough to show its bare shiny bottom, and I had to tip it to be able to spoon out enough coffee for two cups. Logically, then, it should have been a little stale, but it was much more satisfying than coffee with milk usually is. Everything is tasty today.
Last week's tomatoes cooked up for lunch with garlic and some ham and mozzarella that "needed ate up" and marjoram from the garden: entirely delicious. Like the makings of pizza but without the bread part. Herbs are the only thing the garden has produced properly this year. OK, the zucchini are not doing badly; I give them that.

Jun. 11th, 2007 01:32 pmSome things, mainly related to the pointless and self-degrading practice of watching sport on the television. Neither in chronological order, nor in order of importance.
1. Robert Kubica got out of this with naught but a sprained ankle. (video on t'youtube - link)
2. Please give us more lbw decisions.
3. The Spanish sports papers and magazines are streets ahead of ours. I don't understand enough Spanish to make the most of this. I suck.
4. Cumbria County Council are blockheads.
5. Alistair Cook and Kakà are the same person.
6. Hot and sweaty, innit.
7. I need new trainers.
8. I'm into steak and asparagus at the moment.
9. I'm defensive. I figure I'll get flamed or mocked for every single thing on this list. It's all I can do to type it in and press the button. Why do you think I included "pointless and self-degrading" in the intro. Better I do it and save youse the trouble.
10. Yes, has been good Harmisons, can has treet (with apologies to Urs).

Sep. 28th, 2006 02:04 pmNum num num, delicious leftover Bombay potato.
I only wish I'd had more potatoes to use up, because there would have been more leftovers for lunch.
Anyway, sport. I'm going to post more about sport. Which would you like - sports related posts behind a cut, or a sport-related filter that you have to sign up for (and which would probably have about three people in it - I have the distinct impression that my Brunchma and Unaboard pals don't care for sport, with only one or two excepctions)?
