rally finland day 2, Hungarian GP qualifying, cricket

Sébastien Loeb and Mikko Hirvonen have been trading three and four seconds back between each other through all ten stages today. Seb won the last stage of the day and takes an 18 second lead into the final day, so the rally is his unless he makes a mistake or something goes wrong with the car.

Jari-Matti Latvala got back into the zone and won two stages today. He sounds so perky when things are going well. He mentioned having the confidence now which he didn't have yesterday morning, but that is missing the point. The huge, massive mistake he made wasn't on the road yesterday. It was during recce on Tuesday or Wednesday, when he didn't note a bloody great rock the size of a breadbox on the side of the road. I've seen the onboard of the bit leading up to his disastrous off, and I can see the rock, it's right there. I'm not expecting a driver to notice it for the first time when you're going through those flat minus corners, a hundred miles an hour in the actual stage, though. I'm expecting them to notice it at thirty, forty miles an hour during recce. It was in everyone else's bloody notes, Jari-Matti, why not yours? I suspect that he may have gotten so overexciteable because omg it's the home event, that his concentration even during recce wasn't quite there, but you know, you have to fix that!

Toni Gardemeister sounds like a morose Moomin when he is unhappy with his car. It's the most pleasant sounding complaining I ever heard. Poor Toni, the car just doesn't work properly.

I watched the qualifying sessions for the Hungarian Grand Prix, and as usual got terribly annoyed with Steve Rider and whatsisface. Stop talking complete bollocks! Pretty much everything ITV put together is shit. Damon Hill in this weekend instead of Martin Brundle. Interesting to see if he has the same jinxing qualities as the Brundle. A good qualifying result for the slash, a good result for Timo Glock, and a poor one for Kimi Räikkönen. Things still not quite right there.

The day's cricket has gone pretty well. Does anyone know why Michael Vaughan gave Monty the new ball? Odd. We are limiing the run rate, but we must must must get another couple of wickets. They only need about a hundred now.
