Hair needs a cut. It's looking a little weighed down and blah. I think I need to get a half decent conditioner again. The discount super value lines aren't working for me at the moment. Shiny hair isn't a big deal. Wanting shiny hair is... I don't know. Maybe it's something that it's OK to want. I'm losing touch with my permissions again.
I have more grey hairs these days. Odd how that works. A couple of early colonists arrived when I was 26, and for a few years that's how it was: a constant population of two or three gray hairs. Now it seems that was a mistake on the part of grey hair HQ. They'd forgotten all about those early pioneers, but after an exchange of telegrams and a little embarrassment, new settlers have arrived and booted the indigenous population right out of their own follicles.

I've gone from single to a few this winter, plus the odd one in the sideburns. ISTR my father suddenly getting a lot greyer in the year he was 35, which makes me think that I will be looking much more hem hem distinguished before the year is out.

I'm a big conditioner fan. Right now I'm actually using a shampoo/conditioner combo and then I follow that up with a little just plain conditioner. My hair gets really dry and since it's really thick, conditioner helps tamp it down to a manageable size. Of course, I also blow-dry and occasionally flat-iron, so YMMV on how much conditioner you actually need.
And going along with V's comment, I always use conditioner that's marked 'for color treated hair.' It's always seemed to do more for my hair than the regular conditioners.

I am far too amused by the colonization metaphor. I want to send tracts to your follicles.

But then I think about the respected white lawyer at a national conference who implied all his Jamacian clients were potheads and Rastafarians and actually did a little 'impersonation'. Yeah that was awful. Never mind.

I'd like to think I'd be down with the greys if they could somehow be coralled into some attractive streaks a la Rogue in X-Men or Anne Bancroft. Since that is not in any way happening, I will continue to henna them. When I can be bothered; most of the time I try to pretend they don't exist.

Incidentally, I have always valued my greys: they had a strong connotation of "real grown-up" to me, when they arrived. Although, at 26, one is in a position of privilege, and one can make all sorts of grandiose progressive statements with little risk of one's money being put where one's mouth is. Have my thoughts changed? I don't believe they have.
